Concept 1: Formative Assessments Summary: In chapter 15, Woolfolk takes a deep dive into assessments. She discusses the various forms of testing, from standardized tests to interim assessments. The text also covers the issue of how reliable or valid test scores can be. However, one assessment that is discussed where numeric scores are usually not as important is the formative assessment. According to Woolfolk, a formative assessment's purpose is "to guide the teacher in planning and adjusting instruction and to provide feedback to help the students improve learning" (Woolfolk, p. 593).
